Your Paradise Cove photo is the best I've seen from this spot. Too many photographers put the rocks right in front of the lens for that "in your face" shot.

Your photo proves that the beauty of this spot lies in the entire scene, not just on a single rock.

I really like your 6x17 maple shots too. I just picked up a G617 and am having a custom ground glass made. I had intended to get a GX617 but the deal I found on the G617 was too good to pass up.

First, thanks for this article. I'd mention that to investigate reprocity failures and to "learn a film" there is a cheap way, just experiment with 135mm SLR with spot metering and that film, later it's necessary to correlate a bit the little metering shift between the SLR and the wooden artifact, this can be done by using a grey card.

Very nice Ben. It is my favorite spot in the narrows. Even though I got an ok shot the year I ran into you there I've wanted better. Each year since I have been skunked. The spot has so much potential and can see it in my mind. I do like how yours turned out.

I thought of this blog entry yesterday when I took the day off to go up to Joshua Tree to check out the once in a lifetime event of all the Joshua Trees blooming at once.

I brought my large format camera but never took it out. I snapped a few pics of the blooms with my medium format camera, but they were "fun" pictures more than anything else.

It was nice to just be a tourist, and observe the other photographers doing their thing.

Hey Ben, congrats on the gallery representation. Hope you sell enough over there to at least recoup your gas cost and buy another box of film :) Still sitting on two boxes of Fuji 8x10 chrome myself (Velvia and Provia) it's hard to get motivated to shoot these days, and getting older doesn't help when it comes to lugging the 8x10 kit around, but it's always an inspiration watching your vids and seeing the results.

Cheers and am looking forward to your next adventure.

I just finished watching your youtube series on Death Valley and Zion. You're such an inspiration! I recently attended a workshop with Ian and Joe in Chincoteague, great guys. I'm heading to Namibia in July/August for 18 days and I hope to come back with some great shots by taking your advice...well thought out shots, patience, perseverance, and simplicity.

What a shame to hear that! I see a lot of informal invitations for "workshops" that are probably the predatory types like you describe. I guess it's like any trip-you should only sign up through the reputable places. I signed up for both workshops through a well-known gallery.
