Like the sitting cross-legged on the dune while dispensing photographic wisdom. We can hike to the pinacle of the dunes to ask the photo-swami a question! Photo-swami, what are singing dunes? (I’ve never heard that before……)
The singing dunes are very fun to experience in person. As you walk down the slope of certain steep dunes, it creates a mini sand avalanche. As the grains of sand rub against each other, it creates a vibration that is amplified by the dune itself. The result is a relatively loud sound somewhat like a person playing a didgeridoo. I’ve been going to the dunes since 2009, and this is the first time I’ve experienced it. Now I know what to look for, so I can likely make them sing on command.
